The list of countries being devastated by natural disasters caused by Climate Change is growing. Examples to date are Puerto Rico and Haiti. Recovery is also becoming more difficult. Sadly those most affected are the poor. We have a duty to act not only for their interest but also our own if we are not to have continuing problems with refugees needing support.
The company Monolithic of Italy Texas USA has been designing, building and helping self builds for many years with structures that are virtually disaster proof! If you have looked at the pages on this web site you will see why.
There are two basic versions 1. The Monolithic Dome 2. The Ecoshell. The Ecoshell is a basic low cost version of the Dome but having all the disaster withstand capabilities and ideally suited to replacing homes that have been destroyed by natural disasters.
They are much quicker to build (something you need when people have no where to stay). Require minimal skill to build and are suitable where communities can pool their labour for the common good.
Monolithic have their own charity “Domes for the World” www.dftw.org. However other charities could well support this type of operation by providing the raw materials for groups re-building. I can think of places like Haiti and Puerto Rico where this would make a huge benefit to the islands especially that these structures will withstand future Hurricanes.
This is another of the 1001 ways we can beat Climate Change and at the same time act on poverty and hunger throughout the world. Make Climate Change a motivator not an inhibitor!
